The crux of the matter is that the original poster has not purchased a drive from Canon, he has just bought a cheaper one in the hope it will work to try to save money. Add all the man hours up that he has exhausted on this execise backwards and forwards to the customer and it has probably cost him more than buying from Canon direct.
